Nanny Cam Hiding Tips

Nanny cams are becoming more and more common for a number of reasons. Whether you want to spy on a nanny you suspect is mistreating your child or you just want to make sure she is working and not watching TV, a nanny cam can be a useful tool.

In order for a nanny cam to be useful, however, you will want it to be hidden in a spot that no one will suspect. The following are some tips for hiding nanny cams.

1. Know what you’re trying to “catch.”

Where you put your nanny cam will probably depend on what you want to catch your nanny doing. For example, if you think she is just watching TV instead of playing with your child, you can put a nanny cam in the living room or family room and record the time she is spent on the TV. Or, if you think she is mistreating your child, you might consider placing it in the child’s room by the crib.

By knowing what exactly it is you want to see the nanny doing, you can better know where you want to put your nanny cam.

2. Know what kind of camera to get.

You will need to research types of nanny cams before you will know where to hide it. For example, make sure you know the lighting required, how much of the room it will cover, and so forth before purchasing it. You don’t want to get a hidden camera and hide it, only to find that it only records a short viewing angle. Make sure you know exactly what the camera will do before you purchase it.

3. Hiding your nanny cam

One option for hiding a nanny cam is to get a camera that is already built into a regular household or child’s item. For example, you can get nanny cams that are hidden inside stuffed animals, toys, books, or a child’s furniture, making it look like it blends right in with the surroundings. Make sure it looks natural though, and matches and fits in; otherwise, it could be suspected.

There are other places you can hide your nanny cam as well. The following are a few good places:

  • Curtain rods. A camera can be places inconspicuously on a curtain rod or by a window, providing a good angle of the room for you to see what is going on.
  • In a crib. Many times, nanny cams have captured the nanny mistreating a child who is crying in a crib. Placing a hidden camera in a crib, either in a toy attached to the side or in a mobile, is one way to do it.

You can also tell your nanny that you have nanny cams in the house. If you do this, however, make sure you don’t tell them where they are located. That way, they will know to be on their best behavior because they will that they are in fact being recorded.

Keep in mind that while a nanny cam is a good way to keep your child safe and catch your nanny doing something wrong, they should never replace a background check, references, and your own instincts as a parent.

If you do decide to use a nanny cam, part of its success rests in whether or not it is properly placed. The above tips will help you hide your nanny cam in the best spots.
