Two things a runner needs: running shoes and running headphones
When you are a runner you need two things, a great pair of running shoes and a great pair of running headphones to attach to your Ipod or mp3 player.
Of course, you know why you need a great pair of running shoes. You need these to protect your feet, to keep them from hurting and to help you move better.
You probably also understand why you need a great pair of running headphones. I mean really think about it. These are the facts. Running is a great exercise. It is also very popular. It is easy to do. All you do is go out and get started. You get to see a wide range of activity, depending on where you run. This is all well and good. But running can also be boring.
Think about it. You see the same things day after day. You may even see most of the same people. Sure the sounds of the singing birds are nice for the first few days, but after a while they can become boring. That is why most runners prefer to run with an mp3 player or an Ipod playing their favorite tunes or possibly even playing the recorded words of a book on tape. These types of activities gives your brain something to think about besides that next step and you will find that running is easier, you can run longer and possibly more faster. Furthermore, most runners have found that they will keep up with the sport a lot longer if they use an mp3 player or an ipod.
However when you are using one of these devices while running you should have a good set of sports headphones. They must be able to accomplish a few goals such as:
* They must fit comfortably onto your ears.
* They must not fall from your ears.
* The wires should not be in your way.
* They should have clear sound
* They should be lightweight
Sounds easy enough to find. But they aren’t always. Many runners will use arm bands to hold their mp3 players or their IPods in place. This still means that they have to deal with the headphone wire. Some will run the extra wire around their necks or they buy a pair of runner’s headphones that comes with a clip (Sony makes one style that has this clip). This clip can be clipped to one’s collar and then the extra cord from the headphone can run down the back of one’s shirt out of the way, the player can then be clipped to the front or back of the shorts.
Many runners have found that that the earbud type headphones are uncomfortable and are hard to keep in their ears, especially if they the runners are smaller in size. These runners sometimes have luck with the over-the-back style headphones. The only disadvantage of these is that it makes it hard to impossible to wear sunglasses at the same time.
Should a runner ever consider wear noise reduction headphones? This may not be advisable. Noise reduction headphones are used to block out the noises around you. However you shouldn’t do this when running. You need to be able to hear if someone is yelling at you, if a dog is barking, if an alarm or siren goes off, etc.
Finding a great pair of running headphones may take a runner a bit of time, just like it takes a bit of time to find that perfect pair of running shoes. But is worth the time and effort because running headphones is one of the two important things a runner needs.
